Irish studies offer programs at degree and graduate levels, including master's degrees in Irish history, Irish culture literature, and there are many courses in Irish sociology, politics and the Irish language. Irish studies also include some of the handcrafts and skills that were practices in Ireland including linen production, musical instrument making and Irish dance.

Irish Society and Culture
If you have a particular interest in Ireland, you can study the area of Irish society and culture that appeals to you. You can trace through the history of the conflict between England and Ireland, from the Norman invasion in the 11th century through settlement policies in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, the potato famines and subsequent emigration; into partition at the end of the 19th century and the birth of modern Eire at the beginning of the 20th century. Or you may choose to look at the influence that religion has had on the development of modern Ireland.

The Irish have had a major influence throughout Europe and the World. Indeed, for such a small country, with a small population situated on the very edge of Europe, Ireland has had an unprecedented influence on the culture and development of many countries all over the world.
