Interior designers increasingly specialise in the areas and type of design they do, and one major area of specialisation is kitchen and bath design. Kitchens and bathrooms are often the major part of a home renovation, and usually more expensive - and with a higher payback - than other areas of home renovation.
Qualifications Get You Noticed
If you are interested in kitchen and bath design as a career, you should consider studying for a qualification in kitchen and bath design. This will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be able to design new kitchens and bathrooms well, plus the practical knowledge that allows you to project manage home renovations in the kitchen and bathroom. You will also gain a recognised qualification, giving you increased credibility with potential clients and with the fellow professionals you will work with.
Once you have gained your qualification in kitchen and bath design, you can decide whether you are going to work for a design practice - maybe an interior designer or an architectural practice, or whether you are going to work for yourself. Working for yourself has some good advantages, as you can choose who you work for and what you do, but you must also be able to run the management of your business as well, in order to be able to maximize your returns to yourself.
