In the old days of stick-em-up, your assailant had to walk up to you face-to-face in order to rob you. These days, however, criminals have increasingly embraced technology to commit their evil deeds. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the Internet. Criminals on the other side of the world can deprive you of your funds without ever meeting you. Cyber security is a field that seeks to address this growing threat.

Cyber crimes are becoming an increasing problem thanks to the rise of online shopping, banking, and investing. A hacker can potentially break into your account and steal your finances or your identity without your ever knowing it. Thus, as a cyber security professional, your job is to make it harder for criminals to break into accounts and steal information. You work on making online transactions more secure. But in addition, you also track and pursue hackers so that you can catch and prosecute them.

Using computer technology, you will work with international governments to trace hackers and monitor their activity. However, this is easier said than done because criminals work very hard to make sure that they don't get caught. Thus, you will need extensive computer knowledge and law enforcement training for this particular career. In essence, you must train to become a hacker. Certification in various programming languages is the best place to start. Thereafter, you can train with a law enforcement outfit that will teach you various hacking techniques and protocols. After your certification, you can start catching the bad guys from the comfort of your own computer.
