Surgical technologists can earn an accredited degree in only nine to twenty-four months. During surgical technology training programs, students can brush up on their mathematics, anatomy, biology, and chemistry skills. Also, you will learn sterilization methods, surgical procedures, and equipment management techniques. Surgical technologists' duties include setting up surgical instruments, preparing patients for surgery, and handling laboratory specimens. After graduating from your program, you can earn the title of Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by passing a national certification test. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that job opportunities for surgical technologists should grow rapidly through 2014. |
