Connectivity is an absolute requirement in this day and age. If you have ever lost your Internet connection or dropped a cell phone call, you already know how important it is to stay connected. There's nothing more frustrating than being offline, isolated, and unable to share information with others. Computer networking is the field that seeks to address this issue.

Although there are many paths to this career, becoming certified by Cisco is an excellent start. Cisco has become the standard in computer networking. By becoming certified, you can demonstrate to employers that you possess adequate knowledge of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), switches, routers, nodes, and other aspects of networking.

Like most computer-related jobs, opportunities in computer networking will flourish in the years to come. Our reliance on computer technology, access to information, and connectivity is constantly growing. Take note, however; the next big leap will be in wireless networking. During your studies make certain that you focus on this area since it will soon become the industry standard.
